This is a very small step forward.
Bush signs bill paying for new U.S. border fence: "SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (Reuters) - President George W. Bush signed a law on Wednesday that will pay for hundreds of miles of new fences along the U.S.-Mexico border, a move against illegal immigration that Republicans had sought before next month's congressional elections. "
Mexico's Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez said the fences hurt bilateral relations. "Just the idea of a wall, a fence ... is an insult to good neighbors," he told a news conference on Wednesday.
President-elect Felipe Calderon said fences were not the solution to the illegal immigration. "It does not resolve the problem and, I insist, it will make many Latin Americans take bigger risks, probably causing deaths," Calderon said on a visit to Colombia.

Perhaps the fence would be an insult, if they were actually good
neighbors.

Oh please!!! Take responsibility for yourselves. The risk any Latin American takes is their own choice.

Just like to dumb risk that Americans always take when going to War. At least these people have a common, normal purpose such as caring for themselves and their families. They do this to protect their families from poverty, such as any honest to good person would to go to war to protect their country.

If Americans are so dumb, and take needless risks, why is it so much better for these illegal aliens to care for themselves and their families here, in the USA, rather than stay where they are?
You don't know the answer, or rather not say? Fine, I'll tell you why.
It is precisely because of our willingness to defend our home, to preserve our values and our FREEDOM that has made the USA into the place where everyone wants to come and raise their families.
It is not only the risks, but also the sacrifices our forefathers have made, including our brothers,sisters, fathers and grandfathers, that died, spilled their blood or suffered terribly at the hands of our enemies that made this country the place where everyone desires to live.
And now, to you, we are dumb risk takers. These risk takers are responsible for providing the bounty and freedoms which we all enjoy here, including the criminals that illegally cross our borders every day with their families.
Go back home, act like real men and and get in line as my grandparents did. Take the risk of working and fighting for your country. Then you can call yourselves Americans. For now, you are simply cowards who abandoned your homes to reap the rewards of others who have suffered, without the risk of doing so yourselves.
You are cowards and criminals, all of you.
